Cat Behavior - Cat Toilet Training

Cat toilet training may seem impossible but it can be an easy thing to do. Many people have trained their cats to use a human toilet already. Cats are very intelligent animals and can learn and be trained quickly.

Before we start there is one important teaching guide you need to know. Whenever you are training your cat, always make slow and changes over many days. This is the best way and also the easiest way to train your cat to use the toilet.

To start your cat with toilet training, start by slowly moving the litter box from where it is, to right next to the toilet. The cat has to be used to being in the bathroom and be comfortable eliminating in there.

Now once your cat is comfortable with using the litter box when it is right next to the toilet, place the litter box on top of the toilet. It may take your cat a week to get used to this idea, because cats like to feel protected when they eliminate. It is a new feeling for them to be so high when they eliminate.

Once they get used to this, buy or fashion a litter box that will sit down into the bowl and that hangs onto the surrounding rim. Again this phase of training may take a week or so, but be patient.

Now once your cat learns to eliminate into the litter box while standing on the toilet seat, then you can try and remove the litter box entirely. Obviously this is the hardest and most difficult step to teach. But, with lots of patience you can toilet train your cat.

House training a cat to do it's business in the right place requires making sure their lavatory is appealing to them therefore you need to actually give them a choice to pick from.

Once they have chosen which they like and which litter they like to put it in you can be sure they will use it again simply because they will usually leave their scent in it to come back to.

You must make sure you clean out their toilet everyday and not with a citrus fragrance cleaner because they hate that smell but with a light soaping and cleaning.

Positioning can be the deciding factor as to whether or not they use it because if you position it in a place they hardly ever use the chances are they will avoid it or possibly can find it.

You should put it in an area which they use a lot and which is accessible to them.

If you do decide you want to move it to a better spot you have to do this gradually from its original position so you so just move it a few feet at a time so that they can still find it.

House training the cat not to use the sofa for example is relatively easy because you can spray a citrus house fragrance on the sofa so that your kitty avoids that area due to it being stinky for them.

Felines also hate the feeling of aluminum for some reason so if you cover the surface with foil where they are not suppose to eliminate then they will find somewhere else.

Cat Training Toilet

The basic concept of cat training toilet is to get your cat accustomed to seeing the toilet as appropriate place cat accustomed to seeing the toilet as an appropriate place to go potty. And to transition her from digging and pooping into a box of sand to doing her business into a big bowl of water.

When you are implementing toilet training with an older cat, this is even more important to remember. Any cat, especially older cats take to an idea faster, and more easily if they think it was their idea to begin with.

Let your feline friend, find their litter box all on their own. Then after they find the litter box and start to use it, move it. Don't move it far, you must gradually take it to the toilet. This way your cat will use this new toilet idea right off the bat.

If your cat is not accustomed to using the litter box, put the cat in a room by itself. Put the litter box in the room, along with food, water and a toy but make sure that there is very little in the room, including furniture and clothing or towels on the floor.
